mattpositive Two crushingly relevant amen-core ragga junglism prophecies, no doubt setting the tone for two thousand and nineteen in music/culture/universe, etc. If you own Destroy Oh Boy #1-2 (hopefully on wax!) then you've already bought this digital release of DOB vol.1 - if you haven't than you are spiritually bankrupt and need to up your existential credit score. Shorter review: This BROCKS in 2019 and OUTS 2018.

The new year is here and here are two great new tunes from Destroy Oh Boy about that. 2018 has been an odd one. 2019 will likely be stranger. Blessed's lyrics just made sense for this release and we knew we had to get it out ASAP.

And since it is that time of year we thought we would give them as a pay what you want download as a present to you all.

This project began when we got in Blessed from Toronto to record a dubplate of this vocal a few months back but when we started tinkering with it in the studio it became a monster and we knew it needed to be put out rather than hoarded as a private track.

Their are two versions of this tune one from Dr. Colossus and another from Kinsugi,

Dr. Colossus – This Is The Year
I had loved that General Malice tune that sampled this vocal for years but it was completely uncredited. Eventually I tracked down that the vocal was by Blessed. Initially I got in contact with him to just get a dubplate recording but once I started working on the tune it grew out of hand and I knew we had to put it out. So Blessed then recorded some additional vocals and we got it out in time for the new year.

Kinsugi – Unexpected
This tune came together very quickly. When you are working on a tight deadline the things you are listening to sometimes just seep into your work and this was the case with this one. I combined elements of the current things I have been listening to a lot, which is The Bug, NIN and Berlin period Bowie into some sort of epic distorted dancehall thing. Picking up a guitar for the first time in years for the middle section felt far more natural then I would have thought and I want to do more of that in the future. That part all came together almost automatically.

Anyway I hope you enjoy this and happy 2019.
